Willy DeVille dead at 55
August 8th, 2009 - 1:44 am ICT by John Le FevreAmerican singer and songwriter Willy DeVille has died from pancreatic cancer in a New York hospital aged 55.
DeVille was best known for his songs rooted in traditional American musical styles Latin rhythms, blues riffs, doo-wop, Cajun music, strains of French cabaret, and echoes of early-1960s uptown soul.
Born William Borsay in Stamford, Connecticut, he took the name DeVille in 1974. In 1984 DeVille married his second wife, Lisa, who was his business manager.
In April 2009, DeVille was diagnosed with Hepatitis C and in June 2009, while being prepared for Hepatitis C treatment, doctors discovered pancreatic cancer.
