Slumdog Millionaire Los Angeles, Jan 31 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Danny Boyle directed ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ was a huge success at the Oscars, last year. It won 8 Oscar awards and also became the 4th largest Oscar winning movie in the World. And at the 2010 Grammy Awards, the music director of Slumdog Millionaire – A R Rahman has 2 nominations. So it remains to be seen whether the Oscar success rubs on to the Grammy Awards too, for the Slumdog Millionaire movie.

At the Oscars, A R Rahman had won the golden statuettes for the Best Original Score (Jai Ho) and the Best Music Composer too. And now he is nominated in 2 Grammy categories – the best soundtrack for motion pictures, television or other visual media category for “Slumdog Millionaire”, and in the best song for motion picture, television and other visual media category for “Jai ho”. It will certainly be a double bonanza for the shy music composer, if he manages to pick up a Grammy as well.

Besides A R Rahman, there is some other Indian representation too, in the form of sarod player Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and table veteran Zakir Hussain. The sarod exponent Amjad Ali Khan has been nominated in the best traditional world music album category for his album “Ancient Sounds”. It was a joint venture with Iraqi oud soloist Rahim Alhaj. And the Grammy award winner Zakir Hussain has been nominated in the best classical crossover album category for his album “The Melody of Rhythm”. This also features works by Leonard Slatkin, Bela Fleck, Hussain and Edgar Meyer (Detroit Symphony Orchestra).
