When Hoffman turned down ‘crazy’ ScorseseDecember 10th, 2007 - 12:58 pm ICT by admin
Washington, Dec 10 (ANI): Dustin Hoffman once turned down a chance to star in a Martin Scorsese movie because he thought that the director was crazy.
The movie, as it turned out, happened to be Taxi Driver a part that went to Robert De Niro and turned him into a huge star, along with Jodie Foster, and Harvey Keitel.
Now 71, Hoffman reveals that at the time he had been offered the chance to play the lead in the iconic movie, he had not even heard of Scorsese. Furthermore, it was the directors strange antics that had him more than a bit worried.
“I remember meeting Martin Scorsese. He had no script and I didn’t even know who he was. I hadn’t seen any of his films and he talked a mile a minute telling me what the movie would be about,” Contactmusic quoted Hoffman, as saying.
“I was thinking, ‘What is he talking about?’ I thought the guy was crazy! The film was Taxi Driver.”
Hoffman also admits that turning down the movie was not the only dumb mistake he had made in his career.
“I made so many dumb mistakes (turning down hit movies). The list is endless,” he said. (ANI)
