What Is Nigerian Monkeypox?
May 24th, 2010 - 10:30 pm ICT by Angela Kaye MasonMay 24 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Nigerian Monkeypox is trending in Twitter-land right now, which is, of course, causing hoards of people to flock to Google, Bing, and Yahoo to search for the strange sounding disorder, and discover just what is the Nigerian Monkeypox.
Nigerian Monkeypox is a smallpox type disease which can be contracted by humans. In 2003 there was an outbreak of monkeypox reported by the New York Times and subsequent vaccinations were offered. There were 50 cases reported in the United States as of the date of the article, but no one had died as of yet. At the time, four states had reported cases in Indiana, Wisconsin, Illinois and New Jersey. It was detected in American after people who had direct contact with prairie dogs or work with animals contracted the disease. Monkeypox causes symptoms such as fever, headache, dry cough, swollen lymph nodes, chills, drenching sweat, and then a rash comes 10 days later which causes blister like pimples which burst, causing open sores. It can be fatal.
And now, thanks to an episode of The Boondocks, the Nigerian Monkeypox has exploded in Tweets all over the world. Of course, this causes many viruses and such to be added to sites with the words ‘Nigerian Monkeypox’ so readers are urged to take care while searching for the topic. If anything opens which ‘warns’ you that your computer is infected, do not open it!! Simply close the page, and do not click ‘ok’ on anything. Click the ‘x’ and confirm that you do want to close.
