whaleMay 29, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Animal Planet is scheduled to broadcast a third season of its controversial documentary reality series “Whale Wars” sometime this year, which means that environmentalist team Sea Shepherd will again sail into the Antarctic Ocean with the Animal Planet crew in their attempt to stop Japanese whaling. The Sea Shepherd group tries their best to keep a track on the whaling activities conducted in Japan by adopting methods such as helicopter observation, the use of jet boats, and by conducting several public relations activities. The previous two seasons showed that the whalers too are not prepared to leave their ground. They too attack the environmentalist team with weapons such as grenades and cannons.

The Sea Shepherd uses a ship named Steve Irwin to conduct all its operations. This vessel is reportedly a very old customs ship which has been used in both seasons and is being planned to be used in the third version of the show too for the group’s search of the whaling fleet in Japan.

It is true that Animal Planet has taken the decision to renew its show, but the Sea Shepherd has often been criticized by many in the audience. It is said that the organization is still amateur and the activities that it conducts may also pose a threat to the lives of the people involved in the whaling activities. For example, a boat of the organization had sunk into the cold waters of the Antarctic last year, boat collisions being a normal affair that the crew has to face quite often. There is however no doubt about the fact that Sea Shepherd fights against all odds and “Whale Wars” is one of the most though-provoking programs of our times.
