ph2010062501500Atlanta, June 27, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The lawyers of actor Wesley Snipes are hoping that the arrest of his former financial adviser can come as a boon for him. They are planning for a new trial on tax evasion charges. The ‘Blade’ actor had received a three year prison sentence with regard to the case. He has been trying hard for quite some time to get the sentence revoked. However, after the arrest of Kenneth Starr, his lawyers are thinking of filing a new appeal to the court.

Kenneth Starr was the financial advisor to the actor and also to some other actors. He was accused of committing securities fraud amounting to $59 million. The trial of actor Wesley Snipes took place in 2008 and Kenneth Starr acted as a key witness. He said that he had told the actor to clear his tax dues earlier. The prosecutors had a knowledge that Kenneth Starr was under federal scanner though he pleaded not guilty. He also violated tax laws. His arrest has brought the focus of the media on the case.

Actor Wesley Snipes was accused of three misdemeanor counts and his sentence of 3 years imprisonment was seen by the prosecutors as a key victory for the IRS. They had asked for the maximum possible punishment in the case. The prosecutors alleged that the actor did not pay tax worth $2.7 million. The actor is now free on bail. He said at that time that he was not aware about the nuances of tax law. However, he apologized to the court for his mistakes. The prosecutors will now have to come up with new plans to proceed against him.
