We work hard for environmental causes: TrudieApril 27th, 2008 - 1:36 pm ICT by admin
London, April 27 (IANS) Rocker Sting’s wife Trudie agrees with critics who claim the couple is hypocritical on their position on global warming when they themselves add to the problem by flying around in a private jet. Trudie admits that her husband’s tour with his band The Police is the main cause for adding to global warming, reports contactmusic.com. Sting and his wife have been slammed for advocating environmental causes even as they exacerbate the problem by flying around the world in their private jet to their homes in Britain and Italy.
Trudie was forced into a corner when the fact that the couple’s carbon footprint is approximately 30 times more than the average Briton was put before her in an interview.
But she defended herself saying that it was a “challenge” for any celebrity to be environment friendly when one spouse is a rock star.
She said: “When it comes to the carbon footprint, Sting puts his hand up immediately and says, ‘I’m a musician and I have a huge carbon footprint’. (But) are we being hypocritical? He has a 750-person crew to bring around the world and it is a difficult challenge. I would like to think that we both work pretty hard for the rights of indigenous people and for the rights of conservation of the Amazon rainforest, but we do need to get around. It’s a difficult one.”
Sting’s former band The Police reunited in 2007 for a world tour to celebrate their 30th anniversary. They performed in Brazil, Chile, Australia, Japan, Germany, Britain and the US.
