miley4 May 20 (THAINDIAN NEWS) An announcement was released by the retail giant, Walmart on Wednesday which warns customers of a recall on it’s ‘Miley Cyrus’ brand of jewelry. This recall reportedly comes months after Walmart discovered that the jewelry contains high levels of cadmium, which is a very toxic metal that is known to cause kidney failure.

According to a statement on Walmart’s Website, The Miley Cyrus and Max Azria jewelry that was sold all over the country in Walmart stores was discovered to be unsafe due to the carcinogenic properties of the cadmium which it contains. Since children are known for putting jewelry and such into their mouths, or handling the jewelry and then putting their fingers into their mouths, it causes the products to be especially dangerous for kids. Cadmium can, however be absorbed into the skin as well.

As a response to the dangers which were posed to kids by the jewelry, Walmart issued this statement: “The Miley Cyrus & Max Azria line is not for children. It is sold in our ladies apparel section and it was designed for and marketed to older audiences. However, it is possible that a few younger consumers may seek it out in stores,” but the Miley Cyrus line of clothing and accessories is known to draw young girls. In reports from the “Associated Press” it is learned that Walmart had been made aware of the cadmium in this jewelry back in February, but continued to sell the items. This report was made yesterday, however, according to reports today, Walmart has now recalled the items.
