According to the sources, Walt Disney Co., which already owns some of the renowned movies and television characters have reportedly bought the comic book giant, Marvel Entertainment.
The deal means that Walt Disney would henceforth have the control over the 5,000 Marvel comic characters. The takeover of Marvel by Disney means that the Spider Man, X-Men and other renowned comic figures now belongs to the same family that comprises of Mickey Mouse and Tinker Bell.
Inside sources reveal that the ownership of Walt Disney over Marvel has been subjugated to a deal worth of a whooping $4bn. Robert Iger, Disney’s President and Chief Executive reportedly said, “We believe that adding Marvel to Disney’s unique portfolio of brands provides significant opportunities for long-term growth and value creation.” “We are pleased to bring this talent and these great assets to Disney,” he added.
Ilke Perlmutter, Marvel’s Chief Executive said Disney was “the perfect home for Marvel’s fantastic library of characters given its proven ability to expand content creation and licensing businesses.” Sources reveal that the shares of Marvel leaped from 26.08 percent in New York to $48.73 about an hour soon after the opening of the market.
