September 27, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): As the early estimates from Hollywod.com came in, it became evident that the sequel to the earlier hit ‘Wall Street’ is destined to usher in a new high as far as the fascinating world of high finances are concerned. The recent offering from director Oliver Stone, ‘Wall Street :Money Never Sleeps’ has topped all the other movies that were released over the weekend, keeping up a steady influx of money as the cash counters never stopped ringing.
Box office statistics reveal that the film raked up $19 million at the domestic box office. It stars Michael Douglas as the main protagonist while Frank Langella, Shia LaBeouf and Carey Mulligan complete the main cast of the film.
The ‘Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole’ has now been placed in the second position after having earned $16.3 million. Ben Affleck’s, ‘The Town’ which is a crime drama finds itself in the third spot with $16 million. However, the final numbers may shift on Monday with a change in the rankings as well.
The president of the box office division of Hollywood.com, Paul Dergarabedian, said that both Gordon Gekko and Oliver Stone were iconic in their own way whereas a fresh influx of new blood in the form of Shia LaBeouf helped in making the film achieve popularity as well.
‘Money Never Sleeps’ succeeded in keeping its viewers awake as the sequel unraveled twenty three years after Gordon Gekko landed up in jail. It managed to take over the crown as the Hollywood Pundits found the film drawing in the crowds by the thousands on the very first weekend following its release.
