Washington DC, May 20 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Wal-Mart has withdrawn its ‘Miley Cyrus Jewelry’ because of high level of the toxic metal cadmium. Wal-Mart got to know about the level of cadmium after it performed test on the jewelry on the request of The Associated Press, last February.
However the company said it was withdrawing the products that were produced after April 9, as well. Wal-Mart also says it had voluntarily removed all children’s jewelry that has cadmium in it. A Wal-Mart product safety spokesman said that, “ Customers must be confused about all the scary headlines we have seen about cadmium… Cadmium in jewelry is only harmful if you swallow it. If you have got some old kid’s jewelry in your house, just keep it away from children who are young enough to put it in their mouth.”
Wal-Mart will not only remove the Miley Cyrus jewelry but they will also remove the Max Aria line as well. Wal-Mart product safety officials say that cadmium toxicity has been exaggerated. They say the compound is only harmful if swallowed and that is why they voluntarily removed all the children’s jewels that contained that metal.
However cadmium is more dangerous than that. It is a highly toxic metal that can cause your bones to soften when consumed. It also poisons your liver and kidney immediately after it gets into the body.
