miley4May 20, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Miley Cyrus seems to be on the news yet again. However, this time she hardly seems to have started the controversy. On the contrary, this time it is only her name that is associated with the whole ruckus. A newline of childrens’ fashion jewelry, entitled Miley Cyrus and Max Azria line, has been pulled off the Wal-Mart stores all around the country after it was found that the jewelry contained high amounts of cadmium. According to the reports provided by the safety spokesman of the Wal-mart store, the authorities had pulled out the jewelry that was high on cadmium.

The retail chain insists that it has not only pulled out those jewelry that were tested to contain cadmium, but also all that that had been manufactured before Apr 9, the date on which the test were conducted, and contained cadmium. According to reports, Wal-mart came to know about the complaints regarding the cadmium quotient of the jewelry in the Miley Cyrus and Max Azria line only in Feb 2010, and the tests were conducted soon after. By doing this, they adhered to the British Safety Standards, the only standard that is maintained worldwide regarding the quotient of cadmium of childrens’ products.

Cadmium can be instrumental in causing cancer, and can also result in immediate poisoning of the liver and the kidneys, if swallowed. A spokesperson for the retail store insisted that cadmium can be harmful only of swallowed, and should be kept away from the reach of children. However, the store insists that the Miley Cyrus and Max Azria line of jewelry had been created for the ladies apparel section, meaning, not for children who are likely to swallow the products.
