sidOct 3, (THAINDIAN NEWS) “Wake Up Sid” not only seems like an awakening for the characters like Sid that presently exist by the multitudes in society, but is an awakening for the celebrated Bollywood director/producer Karan Johar as well. With the newly released film, Johar seems to have declared boldly to the world of commercial, entertainment cinema in India, that he is finally ready to make a serious transition and explore various other off beat ventures, never before gambled on by him.

As for the protagonist Sid, essayed by the present heartthrob of the Youngistan generation Ranbir Kapooor, his is a character that many among the young can identify well and relate to. A child in a man’s skin, who refuses to grow up and see the world from an adult’s view point but is happy flaunting his daddy’s credit card and moving around aimless. So, what happens when he finally meets someone who has preset goals and directions about life? Does Sid finally grow up? This is what the movie is all about.

Catastrophe befalls Sid when he is kicked out of his home by his parents. Salvation comes in the form of Aisha, played by Konkona Sen Sharma, who not only gives him a place to stay but also provides the necessary aim in life that Sid lacked previously. This paves way for a deep seated friendship and bonding to develop between the two.

“Wake Up Sid” is most certainly a movie for the young and the upbeat generation, who are more open to their flaws publicly then their predecessors. New director Ayan Mukherji certainly looks promising with this venture.
