Volcanic eruption disrupts Whitney Houston’s Irish tour
April 18th, 2010 - 12:02 am ICT by IANSLondon, April 17 (IANS) Singer-actress Whitney Houston’s world tour faced a hurdle as she was forced to take a ferry from Britain to Ireland after her flight was grounded due to the volcanic eruption in Iceland.
Houston was scheduled to perform three gigs at the O2 Arena in Dublin as part of her “Nothing But Love” tour Saturday, but faced travel chaos Friday after her flight was cancelled. She instead took a ferry service to the country, after nearly all air services in Europe were halted because of a heavy cloud of volcanic ash floating in the skies, reports contactmusic.com.
“When Whitney was made aware of the airport closures due to the volcanic ash, she made the decision to drive from Birmingham to Dublin via the ferry so that she would not disappoint her Irish fans,” revealed her tour promoter.
Luck was on her side and the singer arrived in Ireland in time to perform as scheduled - despite the 40-minute journey taking over three hours.
Ash spewing from a volcano in Iceland since Wednesday has been hanging over Europe, shutting down major airport hubs.
