March 22, 2010 (Sampurn Wire):Vivek Oberoi is set to star in a musical play written by Javed Akhtar. Isha Sharvani will be playing the female lead opposite him in this play, which will open at the newly-inaugrated live entertainment theatre at Gurgaon.

The play, titled Kingdom of Dreams, has been inspired by yesteryear actor Dilip Kumar’s 1965 film, Azaad. Azaad saw Dilip Kumar play a dashing prince, Meena Kumari as the troubled princess and Pran played the wicked minister. This time, Vivek will be playing the prince and Isha will be the princess. Isha and Vivek have earlier worked together on Kisna. Model Gauhar Khan will be playing Vivek’s other love interest.

According to Javed, the organizers of the show brought him a storyline and he was asked to make it into a musical play. He wasn’t impressed by the idea and thus wrote his own story based on cinema from the 1950s. The play is scheduled to open in May. Vivek has left for Delhi on Friday to rehearse for a month with Isha and Gauhar. The actor thinks he’s a very lucky guy to get to charm both women in a play that is quite new for Indian audiences.
