Islamabad, Nov 8 (ANI): A Polish engineer kidnapped in Pakistan by suspected Taliban militants is still alive, a Polish foreign ministry spokesperson has said citing a latest video.
We have new information that confirms nearly 100 percent that the Polish engineer kidnapped in Pakistan is alive, The News quoted spokesman Piotr Paszkowski as saying on Friday in Warsaw.
He declined to provide further details citing security concerns.
The Kidnapped Polish engineer, Piotr Stanczak last appeared in a video address released by his captors on October 14 in which he urged the release of jailed Taliban fighters. He was kidnapped on September 28.
In a video received by Pakistan media outlets, Stanczak said: Im in the hands of the Pakistani Taliban I demand that all those watching and listening to me, including Poles, put pressure on the (Pakistani) government to free those (Taliban) who are jailed. In this way, I will also be freed.
Wearing traditional Pakistani dress and sitting on a carpet in front of a stonewall, he reportedly spoke in a calm voice into a microphone with the barrels of two rifles pointed at him. He said his captors were treating him well.
His family members and friends confirmed the person who appeared in the video was Stanczak.
The engineers kidnapping came one week after the bombing of the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad which left at least 60 people dead, heightening concerns about instability in Pakistan, a key ally in the US war on terror.
Stanczak works for the Krakow-based Geofizyka oil and gas exploration company. He was kidnapped by armed men during an assault in the Attock region, some 110 km west of Islamabad. (ANI)
