Kolhapur (Maharashtra), March 23 (IANS) Veteran Marathi film and folk actor Ganpat Patil died at his residence here Sunday. He was 89. Type-cast as an effeminate, ludicrous dancer, Patil acted in 62 films like “Songadya” and “Lavanyavati”, most of which were based on the famous folk art form ‘tamasha’.
“Ganpat Patil was a versatile actor though type-cast as a tamasha dancer and was as jovial in his real life as he was on the screen,” said film director Bharat Jadhav in his homage to the actor.
Though Patil had a four-decade career span in Marathi film industry, he could never make enough money to build his own house and spent all but the last two years of his life in a small rented accommodation.
