heneNov 12, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Celebrated film critic Gene Shalit who is known for his more than three decade long association with NBC’s “The Today Show” bid adieu to the show earlier this week. The highly-acclaimed movie critic confirmed this week that he was leaving the NBC show, a news that has left his large number of fans rather disappointed. The regular viewers of the NBC program would surely miss Gene Shalit for his wit, his magic with words and the sheer entertaining moments that he provided in the show all these years.

Not only the viewers but it seems that the cast members of the show would also be missing the 84-year-old movie critic veteran to a large extent owing to which during Thursday’s episode of the show they fondly remembered Gene Shalit and his illustrious work. Over the years, the iconic film critic with his huge mustache, wild hairdo and goofy glasses won wide acclaim for himself from the viewers who loved watching his reviews about any of the latest flick on the block. While talking about Gene Shalit, Jim Bell, the executive producer of “The Today Show” revealed to the media that being associated with the NBC program for almost 40 years was ‘a feat unlikely to ever be matched.’

Following his departure from the NBC show, Gene Shalit himself released a statement earlier this week saying that although he would not be seen on “The Today Show”, that necessarily did not mean that he was retiring from the world of entertainment. The veteran film critic also added that he would continue to work on Internet as well as in commercials.
