Veteran actor Harold Gould of “The Sting” dies at age 86

Harold Gould in The Sting LOS ANGELES (BNO NEWS) — Actor Harold Gould died of prostate cancer Saturday at age 86 at a nursing home in California, local media said Tuesday.

Popularly known for portraying Kid Twist in the 1973 movie “The Sting,” Gould, who began his acting career in the early 60s, was also a drama, speech, and literature professor at Cornell University, Randolph College, and the University of California-Riverside.

Gould, born in Schenectady, New York and a five-time Emmy nominee, participated in hundreds of TV shows, having main roles in “Rhoda” and “The Golden Girls,” and making several guest appearances in others shows like “Perry Mason,” “Soap,” and most recently “Nip/Tuck.”

Gould served the United States Army during World War II, and among the many films in which Gould acted are Mel Brooks’ “Silent Movie,” Woody Allen’s “Love and Death,” “Patch Adams,” and alongside Lindsay Lohan, “Freaky Friday.”

Gould is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lea; his children, Deborah Gould Harris, Joshua Gould and Lowell Gould; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service is pending.
