The production would start its shows from today at the John Golden Theatre. And the production is also going to boast of actor James Earl Jones.
It ought to be mentioned that ‘Driving Miss Daisy’ was an acclaimed play written by Alfred Uhry, which had even won the Pulitzer Prize. It was adapted into a comedy movie in 1989 and it also managed to bag the Oscar for the Best Picture. Hence the Broadway adaptation of the play is being eagerly awaited with bated breath.
The Broadway version of the play is going to be directed by David Esbjornson. The story line of the play borders on the evergreen friendship between a Southern matriarch and her African-American driver. The friendship is of significance because the play is set in those times when the racial differences were majestic and the divide between both the races was astounding.
Vanessa Redgrave is portraying the character of the Southern matriarch. On the play she will portray the character of a 72-year-old Jewish widow Daisy Werthan. And her chauffeur would be none other than James Earl Jones.
