Feb 14, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Valentine’s Day is the time the lovebirds pine for, all through the year. It is the time when people express their love for that special someone in their life. That is why the filmmakers try to release romantic movies before the day or during the season, to cater to the occasion. The latest romantic flick ‘Valentine’s Day’ starring some of the biggest stars of Hollywood has tried to cash in on the occasion as well. The film has big stars like Julia Roberts and Ashton Kutcher beside other prominent actors. It has been made by Garry Marshall, a veteran filmmaker.
The early reviews of the movie are not very encouraging and most of the critics feel that a star like Julia Roberts has been wasted in the movie. The director possibly thought that clubbing some of the biggest Hollywood stars in a setting of Los Angeles on the eve of Valentine’s Day would do the trick. However, the movie does not leave much impression. It reminds one of the many popular romantic comedies that have been aired on TV several times.
Emma Roberts shares screen space with her aunt in this movie but she does not have much to do. Julia Roberts, the original ‘Pretty Woman’ of Hollywood essays the role of a soldier who travels a long way to meet her valentine. There are simply too many stories and sub plots that mar the pace and appeal of the film. Even in the comedy department, the movie has nothing new to offer. The jokes sound stale and lack edge. It could be ideal for occasional DVD viewing for the fans of Julia Roberts and Ashton Kutcher. However, with the theme being love all around, the movie could certainly have some run at the theaters.
