32582 June 25 (THAINDIAN NEWS) With the recent news about General McChrystal, it seems that people everywhere are learning that anything you say to “Rolling Stone” magazine can and will be held against you, even if it takes seven years.

That is the lesson which Val Kilmer learned when he went before a board for the zoning and planning committee in New Mexico asking for approval for a zoning permit which would grant him permission to rent out three guest houses which he owns on his ranch in the state. The committee had one request from Kilmer; they wanted him to explain some derogatory remarks which he had made about New Mexico in ‘Rolling Stone’ magazine over 7 years prior!

In the article in question, which which was released by Rolling Stone magazine in 2003, Kilmer was quoted as saying that he lives in the “homicidal capital of the Southwest,” and that 80 percent “of the people in my county are drunk.” When the questions recently arose about this article, Kilmer denied the remarks.

As he stood in front of the San Miguel County Commission meeting which was held in Las Vegas, Kilmer sang a different tune, however. “I hope that you can recognize my deep regret for the impact my comments have had on you, my neighbors, as well as our state. I am, and wish to remain, a contributing member of our community.”

The committee accepted the apology and granted Kilmer permission to open the bed a breakfast on his ranch. The decision was unanimous, “The county accepted the apology. We hope this is now behind us and we can all live as good neighbors,” stated the County Attorney, Jesus Lopez.
