.
The Exorcist is considered to be one of the most successful horror films ever, so its inclusion is not surprising news. All the President’s Men is yet another wonderful movie dealing with the popular Watergate scandal that led to the resignation of the US President Richard Nixon.
Every year, the Library of Congress selects 25 movies in that registry. The movies are selected on the basis of their significance at cultural, historical and aesthetic level. This latest inclusion of 25 movies has taken the number of movies in the registry to 550.
The right of naming these movies is owned by country’s top librarian James Billington. In 1989, the Registry was formed by the National Film Preservation Act. John Travolta’s movie Saturday Night Fever has also entered this list.
Another interesting entry this year is George Lucas’ 15 minute short film Electronic Labyrinth: THX 1138 4EB, which was made in 1967. This year, more than 2100 films got nominated by the public to enter the Registry.
