Uproar in Kerala Assembly over CM Achuthanandans remarks
December 4th, 2008 - 4:42 pm ICT by ANI Thiruvananthapuram, Dec.4 (ANI): The Congress - led UDF stalled proceedings in the Kerala Assembly on Thursday, demanding a discussion over the contrasting statements made by Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan.
Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Oommen Chandy alleged that Achuthanandan had committed a breach of privilege by claiming that he had already expressed regret in the Assembly about his comments on the family of slain NSG commando Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan.
Chandy said Achuthanandan had not expressed regret in the Assembly for the pain caused to the Unnikrishnan family.
He asked the Speaker of the Assembly, K. Radhakrishnan, to examine the Assembly voice recordings and permit a detail discussion under Rule 50.
Agitated opposition members rushed to the well of the House insisting on a detailed discussion on the topic
The Speaker, however, ruled out any such discussion, but the Opposition refused to relent and raised a point of order.
The speaker then adjourned the House for a day, amid opposition sloganeering by the .
On Wednesday too, the proceedings in the Assembly were brought to a standstill when Achuthanandan refused to retract his words or apologise to the Unnikrishnan family.
The controversy arose after Chief Minister Achuthanandan, commented that ””not even a dog would have visited the house had it not belonged to a martyr. Chief Minister had to face the ire of Sandeeps father when he visited the slain commandos house last week to offer his condolence.
