fansNew York, June 16, (THAINDIAN NEWS) A free-concert at Pier 17 on Manhattan’s South Street Seaport where Canadian Rapper Drake and pop band Hanson were scheduled to perform got canceled mid way before any of the guest performer could take the stage to entertain the assembled crowd.

The concert was canceled as the number of people who gathered for the show swelled to double from what was anticipated by the organizers. This not only led to management problems but also to some unruly incidents. Although the show began at scheduled 6 p.m., on Tuesday the organizers failed to control the unruly crowd and called the New York Police Department to disperse the crowd at around 7 p.m.

As per the reports while the organizers had expected around 10,000 people to turn up for the concert, on Tuesday around 20,000 people turned up. The crowd that gathered to have a look at Drake and the band Hanson did not mind mounting up the roof of adjacent buildings and started throwing bottles at each other.

Though there was no stampeded by the crowd’s movement, an eye witness has mentioned that people who were standing in front of the stage moved out with the fear of getting crushed by the crowd behind.

That the crowd was getting unruly was clear from the Twitter posts that the magazine was posting on its account. At one point the magazine tweeted “It’s a total madhouse–in a good way” and then a second post read “get off the roof”.

After the show was canceled, the organizers apologized on web about the cancellation and promised that they would try to organize the concert soon again.
