New York, Jan 27 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Legendary Hollywood dog Uggie has retired. The trainer of the Jack Russell terrier told Life & Style magazine that the 10-year-old canine is tired and needs to be retired.

Uggie is famous for his role in the movie The Artist. The project is tipped to pick an Oscar. With Uggie stepping out of the public scene, the owner Omar Von Muller says he has the perfect replacement to take over.

He told the magazine that, “I think he (Uggie) will be fine with Dash (Uggie’s brother) stepping in. Uggie is 10-years-old and has done a lot of work, he wants to relax at home. If somebody wants to do a movie with Uggie, they’ll just have to deal with Dash.”

The creature is already a winner of an award. During the last Cannes Film Festival, Uggie was honored with the Palm Dog trophy for Best Performance by a Canine for his role in the Artist.

Uggie first appeared in the drama Water for Elephants which also featured Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson. The movie was directed by Francis Lawrence who also directed the movie I Am Legend.

Uggie’s story is extraordinary. The animal was rejected by at least two owners before its current trainer adopted him.
