Tyler Rises To The Defense Of His Shows Against Lee’s Comments
October 27th, 2009 - 10:21 pm ICT by GD ( 5 comments )Oct.27 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Director Tyler Perry said in a television interview that he felt Spike Lee had insulted and angered him a lot. This was no doubt in retaliation to the comments Lee had made regarding the movies made by Perry. Earlier in another interview on television, Lee was reported as saying that the shows made by Perry were nothing but “coonery and buffoonery.”
Lee had made the comments when he was interviewed at the Fourteenth Annual Black Enterprise Entrepreneurs Conference in May. He was talking about many movies that are made nowadays that seem nothing but buffoonery and made a reference to Perry’s “Madea”, “House of Payne” and “Meet the Browns”. He said that when he sees the advertisement of those shows on television, they leave him wondering and scratching his head. He also said that he felt that the whole scenario is disturbing.
Perry naturally rose to the defense of his shows. In “60 Minutes”, where he appeared on Monday, he said that the comments were very insulting and humiliating and that he was very “pissed off” with Lee for making them. He seemed deeply hurt and became almost overwhelmed with emotion while talking about the comments. He defended his shows by saying that he made them so that people would be baited to talk about things they generally avoid discussing about. For instance, people would talk freely about things like religion, god and love. Perry further went on to say that the shows are based on real characters and that there is no reason to assume that such people do not exist. He described his shows as the device to make people laugh out loud.

Spike, how many people went to see your movies and how many people see Tyler Perry’s movies. Do the Math I’ll wait………….. Ok now you see you are blaming the wrong person. Blame the movie goers not the producer. His movies have me howling because the characters are real. Are you so removed from your family or cultutre that you can’t see this? I mean it is what it is. Tyler Perry, U GO BOY.

Spike, how soon you forget, if anything, your movies set us back, because you had the light skinned girls vs the dark skinned girls being called gig-a-boos, So stop pointing fingers because when you point one three are pointed back at you.
