Tyler Perry reveals about abuse in his childhood
October 10th, 2009 - 6:37 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattLos Angeles, Oct 10 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The American playwright, screenwriter, actor, director Tyler Perry bared his heart out when he shared his deep dark childhood secrets about his abuse trauma in a message on his website.
He writes that, ‘he was sexually assaulted by both men and women as a child, giving a detailed account about the mother of a childhood friend who locked him in her apartment. “I couldn’t have been more than 10 years old.”
He tells of how his grandmother made a bizarre attempt to rid him of his allergies and his dark secrets, which always haunted him. “She said she was going to kill these germs on me once and for all,” he says. “She gave me a bath in ammonia.”
He saw the movie “Precious,” and the movie hit him hard. He said, helped him realize once again that he had survived it all.
“It hit me so hard, I sat there in tears realizing that somehow, by the grace of God, I made it through,” writes Perry. “My tears were tears of joy, being thankful that I made it.”
And the most important lesson of all? Learning to forgive, he says.
“I know that there are a lot of people out there with stories far worse than mine but you, too, can make it. To those of you who have, welcome to life. I celebrate you,” he said. “We’re all PRECIOUS in His sight.”
He is the well known producer of indie films and stage plays, which have grossed over 400 million is also known as the creator of “Madea”, who is a physically imposing and dominating but a clear-heated and well-intentioned lady who serves both as comic relief and as the loud voice of a clear conscience for the protagonists of Tyler Perry’s works.
