‘Twilight’ vampires send Harry Potter to the grave Down Under!

November 10th, 2009 - 1:39 pm ICT by ANI Tell a Friend -

Melbourne, Nov 10 (ANI): The ‘Twilight’ series, by American author Stephanie Meyer, are fast replacing Harry Potter in popularity among Aussie kids.

A survey carried out on 2692 Australians aged 12-18 found that 55 percent would rather read a Twilight book than one about the Hogwarts’ wiz kid, and half said they would rather watch a Twilight film over a Potter movie, reports News.com.au.

Children are eagerly awaiting the release of the second movie in the Twilight series, ‘New Moon’, with more than a quarter of fans saying they have watched the first Twilight flick on DVD or read the book more than 10 times.

The survey by teen online virtual world Habbo revealed that only 15 percent of the teens said they had not devoured a book or film from the vampire franchise.

JK Rowling’s Harry Potter has not fared well, with just 28 percent nominating it as their favourite.

The Twilight series have gained so much in popularity that almost 7 in 10 teens surveyed said they planned to see New Moon at the cinema, with a devoted 30 per cent saying they would go to a midnight screening to be among the first fans to critique the film.

But the vampire franchise is not popular only with the kids, as 61 percent of the teens’ parents revealed they have watched the first Twilight film. (ANI)
