‘Twilight’ bosses caught up in trademark battle
March 11th, 2011 - 5:47 pm ICT by ANILondon, Mar 11 (ANI): The movie executives behind the ‘Twilight’ franchise have become embroiled in a legal battle over the name of a cosmetics line.
US retail chain Bath and Body Works have filed legal papers in New York City asking a judge to rule that their Twilight Woods collection of body lotions and shower gels does not infringe on trademarks relating to the film series, reports the Daily Star.
The paperwork, filed at a federal court in Manhattan, seeks a declaratory judgment to prevent any possible legal action by executives at Twilight distributor Summit Entertainment, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The papers defend the chain using the twilight name, saying, “The term Twilight is used so as to evoke the idea of a particular time of day when the sun is just below the horizon, illuminating the landscape. Whereas defendant uses the term Twilight to refer to defendant’s teen vampire saga.” (ANI)
