London, Apr 6 (ANI): According to Joanna Lumley, female TV presenters need to have good legs while their male counterparts can look like dogs’ bottoms.

Lumley’s comments followed a new research which shows that there are twice as many men over 50 than women on British television.

The actress, 63, said women on TV, who she dubbed “sofa girls”, needed to be young and attractive to appear on screen.

Lumley said: “Newscasting is different, and with what I call sofa girls - not in a patronising way - who host current affairs shows. They seem to have to be young, attractive, showing lovely legs, a bit of washed hair falling down the back - and not the glorious Moira Stewart doing the business.

“If you don’t look good, you’re out. But only women. Men can look like dogs’ bottoms,” she told the Radio Times.

The survey, conducted by the Radio Times also found that the average age of female news presenters is 41. (ANI)
