TV show ‘Golden Girls’ to get a Spanish makeover

giel Madrid, July 28 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Popular TV series “The Golden Girls” is heading to Spain and a couple of popular Spanish actresses will be featuring as the main female casts in the sitcom.

The Spanish version of the sitcom titled “Las Chicas de Oro,” will be shown on the Spanish network TVE through the efforts of Disney Media Networks along with popular Spanish producer Jose Luis Moreno and Latin World Entertainment, who are the co-producers.

Concha Velasco, Lola Herrera and Alicia Hermida who were the former main actresses in Spanish series Pedro Almodovar muse Carmen Maura (”Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown”) will be starring in the roles played by Betty White, Bea Arthur, Rue McClanahan and Estelle Getty in the American version.

There have already been Greek, Turkish, Russian, British and Latin American actresses in the past and the Spanish actresses are now set to join them.

Disney is committed to making local version of famous American sitcoms and this deal emphasizes that. Spanish and Portuguese versions of “Desperate Housewives” for Latin America and Brazil have been made in the past. “We hope to emulate in Europe what we did in Latin America,” according to Fernando Barbosa, who is the Disney Media Networks senior VP for Latin America, U.S. Hispanic and Iberia.
