TV Personalities Colbert & Stewart Announce Opposing Rallies On National Mall
September 19th, 2010 - 7:20 pm ICT by Pen Men At WorkSeptember 19, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): Television personalities Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert have now decided to make their political feud public by holding rallies of opposing natures at the National Mall of Washington, prior to the elections, this November.
Stewart had announced the decision of holding the ‘Rally to restore Sanity’ on the 30th of October by interrupting his own fake news broadcast on the ‘Daily show’ aired on Comedy Central, Thursday. He said that the rally had been specifically organized for the people who were too busy caught up in their own lives to attend other rallies.
Stewart supported his idea stressing that it was for the people who found shouting and boorishness disrespectful. There are many who feel that the loudest voices shouldn’t really be the only ones to get heard. He went on to say that his rally can be likened to the ‘Woodstock’ without the nudity and drugs. Respectful disrespect would be the mainstay of his rally instead, he said.
Stephen Colbert, the host of ‘The Colbert Report’ on Comedy Central, is busy planning yet another rally called, ‘March to Keep Fear Alive’ this time. He has been urging the people to carry an overnight bag stuffed with five additional sets of underwear. He said that it would serve as a challenge to the ‘dark’ and ‘optimistic’ forces. He also said that the nation could not really be expected to restore its sanity in times of recession.
Colbert writes that the United States has been built on the basis of ‘liberty, freedom and fear’. He goes on to argue that they want us to replace fear with reason forgetting that reason was just a letter removed from ‘treason’.
Both Stewart and Colbert have filed an application for permitting 25,000 people at the Washington Monument Grounds said the spokesperson for National Park Service, Bill Line. None of the applications have been approved as yet, he concluded.
