TS Nagabharana forced to resign
May 5th, 2010 - 8:18 pm ICT by Sampurn WireMay 5, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): TS Nagabharana’s (the President of the Karnataka Film Academy - KFA) controversial statement has rubbed the Kannada Film Directors Association (KFDA) the wrong way. The upset directors held a protest against him in front of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) and demanded that he withdrew from his position as the President of KFA.
When the Karnataka State Film Awards were held at Shimoga in April, Nagabharana had said that the President of KFCC, Dr. Jayamala felt that there was no need to send invitation cards to directors and that they would only send cards to the film artistes. This idea had provoked the Kannada Film Directors Association.
On Monday, the Kannada Film Directors gathered at the KFCC to confirm her statement. TS Nagabharana was also present there. When asked about the statement Jayamala had made, he changed his manner of speaking and said that Jayamala had not made her statement in that tone. This frustrated the directors and they demanded Nagabharana’s resignation from his post.
SV Rajendra Singh Babu - the President of the KFDA, directors Prem, MS Ramesh, AMR Ramesh, Nagendra Prasad, Nagendra Urs, Mahesh and several others were present at the protest against TS Nagabharana. The Association has decided to shun all the functions organized by the Academy for now.
