May 11, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Toyota Motors which has been going through a tough phase from the beginning of 2010 is in trouble once more. Even before it could cope up with the massive global recall affecting its top selling models, another series of recall affecting its trucks and SUVs hit the carmaker hard. It had to pay a hefty fine to the federal authorities. The image of the company has been tarnished to an extent by these recalls and it is trying hard to restore faith among the customers. To woo the customers back, Toyota also churned out added insurance and aggressive price cuts a month back. The latest new is that the Japanese carmaker may be slapped with additional fines.
It is going to add to the woes of the company that is struggling to cope with an unprecedented crisis in its history. The new fine if it is imposed is definitely going to hurt its image even further. Ray LaHood, the U.S. Transportation Secretary has said that his department is reviewing whether additional fines would be imposed on Toyota Motors. He met Akio Toyoda, the president of the Japanese carmaker and had a candid and serious talk with him. He also said that Toyota should be more careful about the actions it is taking to deal with the recall issue in North America.
Ray LaHood also said that from now onwards the US Transport department will scan the actions of Toyota motors very seriously. Last month Toyota agreed to pay a heavy fine though it denied ignoring to inform the customers about the troubled cars in advance.
