‘Toy Story 3′ Creates Record By Becoming The Highest-Grossing Animated Film

toy-story-3-poster August 16, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): The third movie in the Pixar series, Toy story 3’ has emerged as the highest grossing animated film since it hit the theaters on 18th of June, this year. The story about the space ranger, Buzz Lightyear and the cowboy Woody along with the toy owner Andy has created box office history by amassing $920 million so far reports the Disney sources. The star cast of the film includes Tom Hanks, Michael Keaton and Tim Allen together with a host of other stars. It’s earnings from the domestic market has touched the $400 million mark as well reports nydailynews.com

It has also managed to be ranked fourth among the top grossers of all times. ‘The Pirates of the Caribbean’ series and ‘Alice in Wonderland’ are the only films that can be ranked higher.

The toy story characters had been introduced by Pixar in 1995 and it has gone from strength to strength making more money with each subsequent incarnation.

The first of the lot made $362 which was superseded by the second which showed an increase in revenue grossing $485.

Although the movie series is predominantly meant for the children it has managed to find admirers cutting across all age barriers. The sentiments expressed by the characters in the movie have succeeded in making many a father, emotional which is certainly a first for a kid’s movie. The interlaced humour has managed to win over many adults as well.

Pixar had been bought by Walt Disney Co. in 2006.
