Bravo’s Top Chef is about the best cooking reality shows you can think of. Hosted by Padma Lakshmi and Tom Colicchio, a number of celebrities such as Anthony Bourdain and the Foo Fighters would be on the show this season. A wonderful display of culinary skills guests on this show cook up a storm in the kitchen from amous bouche to a simple pizza.

But last week’s finale had a few surprises when Hosea was announced the winner. It was surprising because it gave the impression the judges chose the most likable guy, and not necessarily the best chef. Stefan has cooked more inventive, tasty food, but he is also perceived as smug and obnoxious and it is no surprise that neither the judges nor the audience would want him to come back on the show next season to judge anything.

If you have watched up the reunion show you would know that the producers were playing up whatever there was between Hosea and Leah, almost making it look like a romance. Then the question of whether Fabio and Stefan had anything going for them as well. There was also a discussion on whether Tom Colicchio appeals more to women or men. Food porn for no reason?

So is Top Chef becoming more of a look-at-the-hottie show rather than the fact that the hotties are there because they are serious about cooking and whip us delicious dishes? Or has it failed to rise above the usual drudgery of reality TV shows?
