Top Celebrity Apologies Before Tiger Woods

Hollywood Feb 22 (THAINDIAN NEWS) There were quite a lot of celebrity mishaps and misspeaks, which drew speeches and explanations from all types of stars, long before Tiger Woods’ famous 15 minute apology. Although they are human, just as we are, and prone to make mistakes, celebrities are often felt to have greater responsibility due to their exposure and the examples they set. Some of the top celebrity apologies are as follows:
David Letterman- Although his ratings went much higher after his remark that perhaps Sarah Palin’s daughter got “knocked up” by New York Yankee Alex Rodriguez during a seventh inning stretch, his ego suffered the blow of his words. He apologized after explaining that he did not realize it was Palin’s 14 year old daughter, Willow who was at the game, but thought it was, instead, Palin’s 18 year old daughter, Bristol. Palin was outraged and said these types of jokes were apart of the reason for “the atrociously high rate of sexual exploitation of minors by older men who use and abuse others.” She did, however, eventually accept Letterman’s apology.
Mel Gibson- Mel was outraged when it was reported that he had screamed sexist and anti Semitic slurs at the police after a DUI arrest. He apologized in a Diane Sawyer interview, but many thought it was too little too late. He was “slugging tequila from the bottle” and was quite drunk, but, in his own words, “Alcohol is not excuse.”
Alec Baldwin- Alec apologized on the television show “The View” for a horrible voicemail which he had left on his daughter’s phone in which he called her a “rude, thoughtless pig”. The audience seemed to find him sincere and accepted his apology.
Kanye West- Kanye’s apology on “The Jay Leno Show” seemed to be genuine according to fans, although his actions were rude and immature. As you may remember, Kanye interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech at the MTV Music Awards.
And perhaps the most expensive apology ? Kobe Bryant- in 2003 the star of the Lakers denied charges that he sexually assaulted a female hotel employee in Colorado, and swore that the encounter was consensual. He not only made a public apology, but gave his wife a 4 million dollar ring.
