Tony Nominees 2010 List Revealed

tonyMay 5, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Tony Award Nominations were announced yesterday with musicals taking up all the top slots in this year’s nominees. “Fela!” and “La Cage aux Folles” were undoubtedly the ruling names in the 2010 nominations that was revealed yesterday. Both productions can now boast of eleven Tony nominations to their names. “Fences” too was not to be left far behind. The Kenny Leon musical has bagged ten nominations, including the one for the best direction.

“Fences” was originally a product of the Huntington Theatre Company of Boston. Denzel Washington and Viola Davis who were not part of the original cast have put up brilliant performances this time and have been highly acclaimed, according to reports. Not to forget Stephen McKinley Henderson whose name was on the list of “featured actor” category in this year’s Tony Award Nominations. Some other categories in which “Fences” won a nomination were the best set, the best costume, best music and sound designs.

The nominees featuring on the ‘best play’ list were some of the best productions such as “In the Next Room or the Vibrator Play”, “Next Fall”, “Red” and “Time Stands Still”. “Fences” showed some wonderful performances, helping it to bag a nomination in the ‘best revival’ category. “Fences” was not the only product coming from the Huntington Theatre Company’s stable. “Present Laughter” has also come out from the same company in Boston. However this Noel Coward classic failed to shine in the 2010 Tony Award Nominations, apart from a single nomination for the best set.

The Tony Awards ceremony can be viewed live on the CBS on the 13th of June from 8 pm onwards.
