Los Angeles, Mar 16 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Tom Hanks has reportedly completed talks to star in a new movie about the dramatic rescue of Capt. Richard Phillips and his crew from the hands of Somali pirates.

Phillips and his crew on board the Maersk Alabama vessel were rescued by American soldiers after the hijack of their ship made the international headlines. Phillips wrote a book about the incident in 2009. Columbia Pictures have signed a deal with Phillip to have rights to the story and the book as well. The studio now wants to retell the story behind the drama in the new movie.

According to the reports, Hanks would be playing Phillips in the new movie. The production team of the movie consists mostly of the team behind the 2010 movie ‘The Social Network’.

Somali pirates in the Gulf of Eden are causing all kinds of headaches for world leaders. The pirates have made millions of dollars from hijacking international ships. Though some of the ships have been rescued from the hands of the rebels, others have died in the hands of the pirates.

Some of the pirates have also been arrested and brought to justice as well.
