knightanddaymovieJuly 1, (THAINDIAN NEWS) ‘Knight and Day’ the latest offering starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz is a Box Office flop. The film fell face down against Adam Sandler’s ‘Grown Ups’ and Toy Story 3. With the blame game beginning as soon as the figures were released, the movie bosses have said that Tom Cruise should not be blamed for the fate of the film.

During the first five days at the theaters the film was able to pull in $27.8 million in. The figure is somewhat disappointing for producers who brought in two of the biggest stars in Hollywood in the same action-comedy movie. Tony Sella of 20th Century Fox requested people to not blame Tom Cruise for the film’s outcome. He said he did a lot of focus groups for the film and no one ever said that it was a star problem.

He also added that the marketing campaign of the film was meant to evoke a different kind of mindset towards the film. He said he did not want the star power of Cameron Diaz and Tom Cruise to attract the audience. He said he was the one who should be blamed for the film’s disappointing opening and he should also get the credit if it goes on to make $100 million.

Some movie experts have attributed the failure of the film to Tom Cruise’s fall in popularity and also the poster of the film that showed only two dark silhouettes instead of the stars. Another disadvantage for the movie was the double family-comedies that released at the same time- ‘Grown-ups’ and ‘Toy Story 3′.
