knightanddaymovie July 1, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): ‘Knight and Day’ was released all across the US last weekend but failed to make it presence felt. This Tom Cruise starrer is practically an all-in-one kind of a movie with elements of action, romance and comedy present in equal proportions.

Almost everyone behind the film had high hopes from it but it proved to be a big disappointment, flopping miserably at the box office.

Patrick Goldstein of popmatters.com reveals that the movie which also stars Cameron Diaz failed to garner more than $20 million over the long three day weekend. The entire amount retrieved from the movie now stands at $27.8 million which is a poor amount for a movie of this proportion.

‘Knight and Day’ had boasted of a huge star cast which was backed by the most exhaustive promotions done by 20th Century Fox. Yet the film failed to please the audience and finished far behind ‘Toy story 3’ and ‘Grown Ups’.

The leading star Tom Cruise is now being blamed for the disaster. He had done a lot of press meetings just before the film hit the theaters. However, people in Hollywood have now expressed doubts over his capability of pulling the crowds in to the multiplexes.

Quite a few of the others also feel that the co chairman of Fox is equally to be blamed for the flop. Tom Rothman has been involved in the film right from day one. He was the one who not only chose the title but managed the entire nitty-gritty of the marketing campaign as well.
