New York, Dec 8 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Paramount Pictures has denied as “ludicrous” reports that fans who thronged an airport in Mumbai were paid to cheer Tom Cruise. The actor was in India on the 3rd of December where he received a rapturous welcome into the country.

Indian website Firstpost reported that the welcome by the fans was staged claiming that each person who turned up to cheer Cruise were paid $3. The report quoted a source who claimed to be part of the 200 crowd that turned up at the airport said that, “None of us know who Tom [Cruise] is … We do this for television shows and other such events where crowds are required.”

Reacting to the report, Paramount Pictures issued a statement which was published on the website Huffington Post. The reaction said that, “The only people paid were performers who danced outside the venue. The idea that fans were paid to cheer is completely ludicrous and entirely false.”

Cruise was in India to promote the new Mission Impossible film Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. He was in the country from the 3rd to the 5th of December. During his stay, Cruise told the reporters that visiting India has always been his dream.
