Los Angeles, Dec 8 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Today marks the 31st anniversary of the death of Beatles’ founder John Lennon. The singer was shot and killed at the entrance of his house on the 8th of December 1980 at the age of 40. The police later identified fanatical fan Mark David Chapman as the sole perpetrator of the crime.

Lennon’s death followed the release of his first solo album in more than five years. The singer had released Double Fantasy just three weeks before he was shot.

Lennon formed the Quarrymen in London. The band later evolved to become the Beatles in 1960. Regarded as one of the greatest bands in the 20th century, the Beatles released series of hit albums in the 60s and the 70s until their eventual disintegration.

Observers say his marriage to Japanese singer Yoko Ono was in part to be blamed for the breakup of the band. Following the breakup of the band, Lennon proceeded to have a very successful solo career. He came out with projects like “Mother,” “Give Peace a Chance” and “Imagine.”

The last full-length concert that Lennon gave was in 1972 when he played at the Madison Square Garden, New York.
