Tobey Maguire sued for illegal poker game

Los Angeles, June 23 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Tobey Maguire and other celebrities have been sued for taking part in an illegal poker game in Beverly Hills. The suit claims that the players including Nick Cassavetes and Gabe Kaplan among others were paid with money from a disgraced hedge fund manager.

According to the suit, all the defendants engaged in illegal poker games at several hotels in Hollywood with Bradley Ruderman. The suit claim that the defendants made several winnings at the ‘Texas Hold ‘em’ poker games. The suit is asking the court to order the defendants to return the money.

Ruderman has been jailed ten years for running a Ponzi scheme which resulted in huge losses to his victims. CNN reports that Ruderman duped about 22 victims out of a fortune of $44.3 million.

The suit stated that Maguire who famously plays “Spider-Man” won $311,200. The suit said the winning amounts were paid to the actor through seven bank transfers which took place between June 2007 and May 2008. Cassavetes is alleged to have won $73,800 with Kaplan alleged to have picked $62,000 in winnings.

The suit is asking the court to ask the defendants to return at least $1.5 million of the amount.
