TNT To Extend Six New Episodes To ‘The Closer’

According to the latest reports, the seventh season of ‘The Closer’ is not the last season. TNT is planning to extend the show by adding 6 new episodes.

The show may carry on without Kyra Sedgwick. The show makers are planning a twist in the plot which will not include Sedgwick. The other option that they are considering is creating a spin-off series which will feature the other characters of the show in a new setting. We can only wait and watch which character comes under the spotlight now. Will it be Sharon Raydor or Mary McDonnell’s Captain? The idea of a spin-off series might be easier as Sedgwick plays the central character in original series of ‘The Closer’. The Fixer was launched two years ago by TNT as a spin-off series of ‘The Closer’.

The contract that bounds Sedgwick to the show only keeps her till the seventh season. Although she won an Emmy last year for her role in ‘The Closer’, Sedgwick said she wants to move on once her contract with TNT is up. Some of us cannot imagine ‘The Closer’ without Sedgwick. But this seems to be the current trend with ‘The Offic’e being the trend setter. The exclusion of Steve Carell from ‘The Office’ might have inspired TNT to do the same with Sedgwick.

TNT might have jumped the gun with their announcement of The Closer’s closure in December last year. The network might have later realized that their flagship show, ‘The Closer’ is the most popular one and should be extended. 6 additional episodes of ‘The Close’r and 9 episodes of the spin-off series gives TNT a chance to formulate a full season.
