titanic-nautical-1024Mar 16, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Noted filmmaker and director James Cameron who is known for his award winning movies that have set new box office records has decided to convert his much acclaimed movie ‘Titanic’ in to 3D. 3D movies seem to be the flavor of the times. The director recently tasted success with his magnum opus ‘Avatar’ which swept all major awards last year and smashed earlier box office records. The film also won rave reviews from the critics who went gag over its mind blowing special effect and unique theme. Now the director is all set to release ‘Titanic’, his earlier hit into 3D format. If his calculations are right, then the 3D version of the film will see a release by the year 2012. The year will also mark the 100th anniversary of the behemoth ship’s sailing.

The film ‘Titanic’ was released in the year 1997 in regular format and it did roaring business. It swept the academy Awards and won 11 awards. Apart from planning the 3D Titanic, the ace director also plans to re-release Avatar which he calls a director’s cut version. This version is likely to have scenes that were dropped from the first release of ‘Avatar’. Incidentally, Titanic was the biggest grossing movie of all times till it was eclipsed by Avatar.

The director is of the opinion that it would be wrong to compare ‘Titanic’ 3D with ‘Avatar’ in terms of visual effects. However, it will be near real life 3D experience for the viewers, as he thinks. A sequel to ‘Avatar’ is reportedly in the making as well.
