tiger2Apr 9, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The new Nike commercial featuring Tiger Woods is generating quite an amount of interest, not only because it is after a long time that the golfer is being seen featuring in a television commercial, but also because of the subject matter. In the advertisement, Tiger Woods is seen staring at the camera with a repentant expression, while the voice of his deceased father, Earl Woods, plays in the background, asking him if he has learnt anything, and probing into his thoughts. In fact, the advertisement has garnered enough controversy to grab the attention of the producers of “The Early Show” on CBS.

The hosts of “The Early Show” discussed at length the new Nike commercial featuring Tiger Woods. Barbara Lippet observed that it was necessary for the brand to give some sort of absolution to the golfer, who has been the face for many of their products for a very long time. However, she feels, they could not do it as just another brand he endorses, and so the device of bringing in the deceased father into the scene, knowing that this is an authority that is not likely to be questioned.

Barbara Lippet explains this endeavor by the brand to clear Tiger Woods’ name as an effort on their part to start encashing in on him again. In fact, she even went so far as to question the credibility of the advertisement, saying that Tiger Woods’ father is really not the one who could be called upon to deliver a lecture on fidelity. However, she did explain that the advertisement would surely achieve the aim of being highly talked about.
