The Voyage Of Dawn Treader: The Travel Adventure Entice Overseas Audience

However, the third ‘Chronicles of Narnia’ was able to entice more audience overseas compared to The Tourist. The Dawn Treader taken up by 20th Century Fox after Disney abandoned the project after second Narnia sequel opened at 56 markets and grossed $67 million in internationally. The star studded The Tourist opened in few places like S. Korea, Great Britain and Taiwan may not have performed as expected but faired well enough than it did in North American market. From 15 international markets the Depp-Jolie starrer collected $8 million.
GK Films shelled $100 million for The Tourist but in spite of opening in over 2,000 theatres the film got the worst opening that Depp or a Jolie film can get. On the other hand The Dawn Treader though was less expensive in making than the other Chronicles of Narnia films and it tried to keep the tome as the first Narnia flick, yet it didn’t work the magic.
In the exit polls the response for Dawn Treader was quite favorable but the opening for the film was not. The Fox Executive Vice President hopes that the film can turn around as the Christmas holiday begins. However, it seems The Tourist might not have such luck as the opening was quite soft and the word of mouth is also not a favorable one. One just hopes that the star power can make some magic for The Tourist and recover the cost.
