The Tudors sweeps Irish Film and Television Awards

Washington, Feb 19 (ANI): Television period drama The Tudors swept the Irish Film and Television Awards (IFTAs), winning a record-breaking total of seven titles.

The Henry VIII drama won for Best Drama Series, while Jonathan Rhys Meyers was named Best Actor in a Television Drama Lead Role, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

His co-stars Maria Doyle Kennedy and Nick Dunning won awards for best supporting roles, while the show picked up another three awards at the ceremony at Dublin’s Gaiety Theatre.

In the technical categories, ‘The Tudors’ won the Best Costume (Joan Bergin), Best Hair & Make-Up (Jennifer Hegarty, Dee Corcoran) and Best Production Design (Tom Conroy) awards.

In the feature film categories, Kings and Garage emerged as the top winners, with five and four awards respectively.

‘Kings’ won the awards for Best Editing, Best Sound and Best Original Score.

Garage picked up the IFTAs for best film, director (Lenny Abrahamson), script (Mark O’Halloran) and actor in a lead role (Pat Shortt).

Actor and filmmaker Mel Gibson received a standing ovation for his Outstanding Contribution to World Cinema Award.

Hilary Swank won the Best International Actress award for ‘PS I Love You’.

‘The Lives of Others’ was named Best International Film with Daniel Day-Lewis winning Best International Actor for his performance in ‘There Will Be Blood’.

The event took place at Dublin’s Gaiety Theatre.
